5 NFL Players that deserve the NBA “Super Max” Contract.

July 1st was a huge day for the National Basketball League (NBA) as it was the first day of free agency. The Golden State Warriors made resigning Superstar Point Guard Stephen Curry a priority by signing him to a 5 year, $201 million contract. When the news first came out NBA players such as Lebron James came out by saying that Curry deserved a $400 million contract. However, the most interesting response came from an athlete from a completely different sport. Buffalo Bill’s wide receiver Sammy Watkins stated that NFL players deserved the same types of contract and stated that the 2014 draft class would change the market. Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen posted a video of his son dribbling a basketball. These two responses brings up the question, how many NFL players deserve the “Super Max”?

5. Von Miller LB/DE Denver Broncos

Von Miller was an absolute stud in 2017 and in truth he has been his entire career. Miller is the linchpin of one of the top defenses in the league and is the renowned leader. Not only is he the best defensive player on the Broncos but he is one of the top 3 defensive players in the entire NFL. As the best player on the Broncos and one of the best defenders in the game, Miller is deserving of the Supermax because of his swagger and his ability to change a football game as quickly as his first step.

  1. Khalil Mack LB/DE Oakland Raiders

Like Von Miller, Mack is one of the elite defensive players in the NFL. In 2016, Mack accomplished a feat that no other player had ever accomplished, Mack was named a first team All-Pro at linebacker and defensive end. While the Raiders re-signed Quarterback Derek Carr to the richest contract in NFL history it was Mack that led the resurgence of the Raiders. Regardless of contract Mack will tear through offenses at will once again during the 2017 NFL season.

Aaron Rodgers is a stud and this has been known since he first took over for the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers is a former MVP, Super Bowl champion, and he just led the NFL in touchdown passes with 40, all while leading the Green Bay Packers to 8 straight wins and an appearance in the NFC championship game. Rodgers is one of the best Quarterbacks in the NFL and is the engine that makes the Packers move. Along with his abundance of weapons and a solid defense, Rodgers looks to take the Packers to another playoff appearance and hopefully a Super Bowl. While Rodgers won’t make $40.2 million a year, he does own one of the largest contracts in the NFL and if possible would be the highest paid player in the NFL.

  1. Julio Jones WR Atlanta Falcons

The NFL’s best wide receiver just played in his first Super Bowl and resides in Atlanta. Julio Jones has been a top 5 wider receiver in the NFL since his rookie season and has the stats to back it up. Jones helped lead the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl in 2016 but could not close out against the New England Patriots, however Jones showed out by making some major catches for his Falcons squad. A 300 yard receiving game and another All-Pro season proves that Jones is the real deal and a put it all on the field personality allows him to stand out for the Super Max. However, Jones has missed time due to injuries and that could hinder his chances to receive the Super Max.

  1. Tom Brady QB New England Patriots

The reigning Super Bowl MVP and a five time NFL champ. Brady has been considered by most as the greatest NFL player ever and as so he should be paid as the best. While Brady may deserve to be paid as the best he actually is one of the lower paid starting QBs in the league, but his team is always in the playoffs so pay checks don’t always matter. The Super Max was made for MVPs and Champions and Tom Brady is both and deserves to be paid like the greatest of all time.
